Debentures are the source from which The All England Lawn Tennis Ground plc, the company which owns the Club’s grounds, derives its funds to meet capital expenditure.
The company issues debentures for Centre Court and No.1 Court currently every five years to fund the continuing development of the facilities at the grounds for the benefit of all participants. Without the financial commitment of the debenture holders, few, if any, of the capital projects at Wimbledon, such as the Centre Court roof and planned No.1 Court roof, would have been possible.
Details of current prices are advertised by the Company in the Financial Times on the first Saturday of each calendar month.
Debenture tickets are the only tickets which are freely transferable. A policy which is strongly enforced against unapproved transfers of other types of tickets.
The law requires that sellers (where they have the details available to them) list full details, including seat numbers, of any tickets which they advertise on secondary ticketing websites. Ticket details are not known until the ticket packages are despatched toward the end of May. Any debenture ticket details listed on any site prior to despatch of the tickets by AELTC should not be relied upon to be correct.
Whilst these provisions do not restrict the ability to sell debenture tickets on secondary ticketing websites prior to receiving them from AELTC, sellers are required to list full ticket details after the tickets have been received.
For each debenture held debenture holders receive one seat in the Centre Court stand for every day of The Championships; or one seat in the No.1 Court stand for the first 10 days of The Championships.
Tickets (including Debenture tickets) and hospitality packages which include such tickets should not be used as a prize in any marketing or competition without the written approval of AELTC. Quite apart from any breach of ticket conditions, AELTC take the view that such competitions seek to associate a brand or company with The Championships and this will not be permitted for companies or brands that are not official suppliers.
Every five years, Centre Court debentures are issued. Holders are guaranteed one seat per debenture held for each day of The Championships during the five-year period. The current issue of 2,500 debentures covering the 2016-2020 Championships were priced at £50,000 (including nominal and VAT).
Every five years, No.1 Court debentures are issued. Holders are guaranteed one seat per debenture held for the first 10 days of The Championships during the five-year period. The current issue of 1,000 debentures covering the 2012-2016 Championships were issued at £13,700 (including nominal and VAT).
The most recent No.1 Court debenture series, covering the 2017-2021 Championships, was issued in the summer of 2016. Please click to read more.
