Going on the seedings, the former world No.1's 7-5, 6-4 defeat by Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova was hardly an upset; in fact, this played out just as the seeding committee thought it might.
"It just sucks right now to be out of the tournament - there's not much else to say," Wozniacki observed after the first match of The Championships to be played indoors.
Going on recent form, this was hardly a shocking result either, with Wozniacki still without a match win at the Grand Slams this season, after losing in the opening round of the Australian Open and missing Roland Garros because of an ankle injury.
Currently ranked 45, which is her lowest position in the standings since the spring of 2008, Wozniacki will almost certainly disappear from the top 50 on the Monday after the Wimbledon Fortnight as she will lose the points she gathered last summer by reaching the fourth round.
It's more than likely she will also be unseeded at the US Open, which means she could end up being paired with someone of Kuznetsova's calibre in the first round In New York. If Lady Luck isn't onside, she might even be paired with her best friend on the tour, Serena Williams. "It's been a tough year, but you have to keep on fighting," said Wozniacki.
Tennis sounds different in an enclosed Centre Court, and not just because of the noise of the rain bouncing off the roof. Also changed is the sound of the ball hitting the strings, and it was Kuznetsova's strokes that were popping just that little bit louder.
Not that Kuznetsova, a former US Open and French Open champion, was entirely reliant on power as she also showed some light touch with her drop-shots.
Anyone who plays on Centre Court is performing under the arc lights, but with all other matches across the All England Cub suspended because of the rain, there was even more scrutiny on Wozniacki's tennis. Her best play came when she was 1-5 down in the second set. The first time that Kuznetsova served for the victory, at 5-2, Wozniacki broke her. Still, Kuznetsova had a second opportunity two games later and that time she finished it off.
"I'm really happy with my performance," said Kuznetsova, who enjoyed her first experience of playing tennis under the Centre Court roof. She now plays Tara Moore, a British wild card.
