Not for the first time, Andy Murray was under the spotlight on Centre Court in his highly-anticipated ‘Manic Monday’ meeting with Nick Kyrgios - and the British No.1 came through with flying colours.

The No.2 seed, who is bidding for a second men’s singles title after winning in 2013, looked impressive from start to finish as he brushed aside the Australian 7-5, 6-1, 6-4 in under two hours.

On Monday’s form, many expect Murray and Roger Federer to meet in Sunday’s final and the Swiss seven-time champion looked sharp too, crushing American Steve Johnson in straight sets.

In one of the tighter contests on Day 7, Milos Raonic fought back from two sets down for the first time in his career as he got past David Goffin in five sets.

Sadly, there were also two withdrawals as Kei Nishikori quit during the second set against Marin Cilic, and Richard Gasquet lasted only six games against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The ladies’ stories were dominated by the Williams sisters as Serena beat Svetlana Kuznetsova and Venus edged past Carla Suarez Navarro. A Williams sisters final is still a possibility.

The ladies’ draw lost No.3 seed and former runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska when she fell to Eastbourne champion Dominika Cibulkova.

In Tuesday’s ladies’ quarter-finals, Serena faces Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Cibulkova takes on Elena Vesnina, Simona Halep goes up against Angelique Kerber and Venus plays Yaroslava Shvedova.

Day 7 in numbers

  • At 36, Venus is the oldest player into last eight of the ladies’ singles since Martina Navratilova in 1994
  • Two thirtysomethings are into the quarter-finals of the ladies singles (Serena and Venus) – the last time more than one woman over 30 made the last eight was in 1999 when Natalie Tauziat, Jana Novotna and Steffi Graf got through
  • Radwanska and Cibulkova played the longest ladies' singles match at this year's tournament at 3 hours exactly
  • Cibulkova’s win over Radwanska maintains her lead in terms of main draw matches won this year. She sits on 33, one ahead of Kerber
  • Federer is now equal with Martina Navratilova on 306 victories for the most Grand Slam singles wins by a man or woman
  • Raonic has now reached more Grand Slam singles quarter-finals than any other Canadian. Wednesday’s will be his fifth
  • The Canadian passed a new milestone on Monday, winning his first five-set match from two sets down
  • Tsonga has now won more Grand Slam matches (104) than any other Frenchman, overtaking Jean Borotra by moving into the last eight
  • Murray’s win over Kyrgios moved him into his ninth consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final
  • Murray recorded his 50th Wimbledon match win, two more than his coach Lendl. It equals Rod Laver's record
  • Murray’s nine quarter-finals equal McEnroe and Sampras at The Championships. Federer and Connors are equal leaders on 14 apiece
  • Murray has reached at least the quarter-finals at 20 of the last 21 Grand Slams he has played
  • Jiri Vesely is the only lefthander to reach the round of 16 from the 17 who started the men’s draw
