Count the parallels between Andy Murray and Serena Williams at the Olympic tennis tournament in Rio de Janeiro. There are at least four (though one point of difference is that Murray was selected to carry his country's flag into Friday evening's Opening Ceremony, and almost poked out Princess Anne's eye during a photocall the other day).
The first of those parallels, of course, is that the Briton and the American travelled in Brazil while still in the long afterglow of winning a Wimbledon singles title this summer. Will Murray's Centre Court victory, which was his first Grand Slam title for three years, propel him to a gold medal? Williams, meanwhile, ought to be feeling a little more free on court after her success in London, which was her first Grand Slam for 12 months, put her level with Steffi Graf's Open era record of 22 majors. Think of these two Wimbledon champions as being unburdened by Centre Court.
