The Museum has run several special exhibitions over the years, including one dedicated to tennis at the Olympic Games, another charting the evolution of the racket from the 1870s to present day, and a showcase of the spectacular tennis posters in the Museum’s collection.
Our upcoming exhibition, Through the Hoops: Croquet at Wimbledon celebrates the intertwined histories of croquet and Wimbledon.
Did you know that croquet, not tennis, was the first sport to grace Wimbledon’s lawns? The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2018.
The Club was central to the early formation of croquet as an organised sport. This exhibition explores the development of the modern game of croquet from its medieval foundations to the present day.
